Coconut Oil Eye Makeup Remover
Have you ever looked in the mirror in the morning only to see yesterday’s leftover makeup staring back at you? I’ve definitely rocked this look more than a few times. And this was after using eye makeup remover the night before. Why was I paying to use something that made my eyes burn, caused my eyelashes to feel crunchy, and didn’t even remove all of my eye makeup?
Coconut Oil To The Rescue
Fed up, I started reading about alternatives to the store-bought stuff and voilà, I discovered yet another use for my beloved coconut oil. I’ve been using coconut oil to remove my eye makeup for more than a year now and couldn’t be happier. It removes my eye makeup without any harsh scrubbing on the eyes, wipes away easily, and no scary, makeup smeared eyes the next day. The best part is that coconut oil is moisturizing, safe for all skin types, and doesn’t contain all the chemicals, fragrance, and preservatives that many store-bought eye makeup removers do. (See my side by side comparison). Your wallet will also thank you because a little goes a long way! Economical, safe, and nourishing for the eyes, can’t beat that!
What you’ll need:
- Organic, virgin coconut oil (I use refined coconut oil for beauty/skincare things and unrefined for cooking, for the most part). The key is making sure it is organic and virgin. The places to buy coconut oil these days are endless. I use Spectrum’s Refined Coconut Oil that I get at my local grocery store and Nutiva’s Unrefined Coconut Oil that I get at my local health food store. I keep the coconut oil that I use for my eyes in my bathroom in a small, plastic travel container from Target.
- A cotton ball.
- Your hands. Yep, that’s it!
How to do it:
- With clean hands, rub a very small amount of coconut oil between your fingers until it melts and then rub it gently across your eyes.
- Wipe off the oil with a cotton ball.
- Lightly splash some water over your eyes and wash the rest of your face as usual.
- Pat dry.

- Honey Can Do…Everything!
Nothing better than coconut oil to get rid of every speck of makeup! It hydrates your lashes too before bed! If you rub it on before a shower at night, all the extra washes right off, too.
Yes, coconut oil is the best! I use it for SO many things, it has been a lifesaver for my hair. Thanks for stopping by Lori!
